Singapore is a small country that seems more like a big city, and the lack of open spaces inhibits many adventure travel activities that people tend to look for when selecting a place to go, but don’t let that fool you. Singapore has a blend of cultural influences that make this destination a real adventure treat.

Most of the adventure you’ll find here is of the soft variety as you might expect for such a small country. You can find water activities like scuba diving and sea kayaking and also some excellent paragliding experiences, but the soft experiences, like bird watching and walking tours, are wonderful and easier to find.

One of the best adventure travel delights in Singapore is the mouth-watering foods, which fuses many Asian cuisines with some from the West. The cultural mixture of peoples is as diverse as the cuisine and just as delightful.

Singapore is a very safe country and extremely clean. You’re free to roam alone, or with a group, without worry of theft or violence. They are pretty strict about their laws, so you do need to brush up on what you can do and what you can’t during your stay.

Singapore Adventures – The bottom line: Singapore adventures might not have the variety of hard adventure travel experiences like many of the other countries on this website, but the interesting blend of cultures and the wonderful soft adventures certainly make Singapore a worthwhile adventure travel destination.

Exotic Factor
Rating: ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆ – 3 adventure travel stars

Asia, in general, is exotic. Singapore has a mix of many of the Asian cultures with some influence from the west that combine for a distinctive exotic culture all its own.

The interesting architecture as seen in the old temples, modern churches and striking mosques reflects the religious influences of Singapore, and religious beliefs are an important part of this cosmopolitan country.

The landscapes here are different than I describe for many of the other places on this website because of the modern skyscrapers mixed in with the parks and seascapes. There are extraordinary views from the skyscrapers that will take your breath away, and the contemporary buildings are balanced by the nature you find in the parks.

Probably one of the more exotic aspects of Singapore has to do with the cuisine, which you’ll read about in the next section. Suffice it to say that it is an extraordinary culinary delight.

Cultural Factor
Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ – 4 adventure travel stars

Singapore has a diverse mixture of many cultures, which include Chinese, Malays, Indians, Anglos, Asians and Eurasians (as well as other mixed groups). This may seem contradictory in some ways, but they all work well together and form an interesting, exotic balance.

One place you’ll notice the blending of cultures is in the Singapore cuisine where you’ll taste the delectable fusion of Chinese, Malay, Italian, Indian, French, Japanese, American, Thai and other influences. The highlight for some adventure travelers to Singapore in simply to enjoy the many savory foods.

The religious influences are as diverse as you would expect in this cultural melding pot with most of the people celebrating the festivals of their individual religions. The Chinese follow Buddhism and Taoism, Indians are Hindus for the most part and the majority of Malays are Muslim.

Adventure Factor
Rating: ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ – 2 adventure travel stars

Singapore is at a bit of a disadvantage for offering a wide variety of adventure travel experiences due to the small size of the country and the fact that it is heavily urban. The lack of variety is the main reason for the low rating.

There aren’t a lot of hard adventure travel activities, but if you have a love for high-octane adventure travel experiences like surfing, paragliding, windsurfing, and the like, you’re going to have the time of your life. And the bungee jumping is quite different in Singapore. It’s called “reverse” bungee jumping. Instead of falling from a high place you’re catapulted from the ground into the sky.

There certainly are some wonderful soft activities you’re sure to enjoy with the eco tours, bird watching, cultural tours, hiking and nature trips that are sure to give your mind some intellectual thrills.

Singapore adventure travel is also building quite the reputation for their spas, so if you’re into this kind of luxury adventure experience you might want to get pampered while in Singapore.
